All done and you can see the new site running. But somehow some of your clients are still seeing the old site? Why?

Well, chances are the client’s computer would have a local cached version of the DNS. Depending on the system, it might take up to 24 hours for it to be refreshed. But in one case it did not do that for at least 48 hours. How do you resolve this issue where there might be hundreds or thousands other computers are still looking at the old site?

Well, it would not be an issue if there is no hosting server change, but if there is there might be some other things which we can do to prevent this from happening.

Should we :
Transfer the old site onto a new hosting first and then install the new site after? This might not be possible if we do not have the access to the file structure of the old site.

In another case, which baffled my for hours, was that the client was still seeing the old site on a laptop, even just about everyone in the world is seeing the new one. Initially I thought it was the case where the DNS had not been fully propogated yet, but this was not the case. It turned out that in the hosts (Window file) had an entry specifically for the domain name which I was working on, masking the IP address so that it was pointing to the old server! Who would have thought that?

TECHNICAL ERROR : unable to add the product

This happens when you have ajax cart enable and then try to add an item to the cart. You will first get the pop up error message, but in reality the product has actually been added.

After spending hours online trying to find the answer, including suggestions to enable the “mbstring” lines in the php.ini, but nothing seemed to work.

Eventually I realized where the problem was coming from. The apache server did not have support for mbstring, which was causing the error. After a quick (10 minutes) apache re-compile and restart… it seemed to work. Product was added onto the cart with no problem. But another BIG problem poped up.

I was logged out from prestashop, and it wont let me in again. Loging in does not do anything. What was the problem? Well, the changes in php.ini caused it. I reverted all the changes which I did initially in php.ini and things start to work again….

Ajax problem? It was not ajax and it was not javascript. It was just some php function which was not supported that was causing the Unable To Add Product Error problem.

Mason approached Indra-Design a couple of months ago, with the aim of having a new website with a content management system (CMS) which can be updated online by admin users.

It was made clear that the system would have be easy to use and can be updated by users with limited/no html skills. Indra Design provides the solution for this by using a tailor-made CMS.

Mason also decided to refresh the whole design and feel of the site. Within weeks a prototype of the system with the new design was launched.

Indra-Design has produced a clean look and easy to use/navigate site. On top of the site, Indra-Design also provided a training session for Mason on managing the site.
